Early Childhood Apprenticeship Program
The Early Childhood Apprenticeship Program is a program of the Delaware Department of Labor, Division of Employment and Training. The program's goal is to improve the quality of child care by providing training and education for those currently employed at a child care center. Through this program, professionals receive formal education and on-the-job training to increase their knowledge and skills. This professional development is linked to increased compensation at set levels.
The apprentice:
- Works full time in a licensed child care center
- Receives on-the-job training and supervision by a mentor (journeyperson)
- Receives wage increases as training is completed
In two years, apprentices complete:
- 288 hours of related instruction (education)
- First year: Training for Early Care and Education (TECE) 1&2
- Second year: Three specific classes at Delaware Techincal and Community College (T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood may be able to provide a scholarship for these classes)
- 4,000 hours of on-the-job training
Upon completion (two years), Apprentices will receive a nationally recognized Apprenticeship Completion Certificate (Journeyperson Certificate).
The Early Childhood Apprenticeship Program is a collaboration of the Delaware Department of Labor, Office of Child Care Licensing, Office of Early Care and Education, and FWC.
