THIS HOLIDAY SEASON, CREATE A TRADITION OF GIVING WITH YOUR CHILDREN...
The holiday season provides families with many charitable giving opportunities. Here are some tips that you may use to create a tradition of giving, even with very young children:
- Instead of giving to “the needy” or “less fortunate,” involve children by giving something they understand, like jackets to people who are cold and do not have enough money to buy them on their own.
- Involve young children with local projects in your community. Children can become overwhelmed with the responsibility of solving the huge problems of the world. Start with something simple and local.
- Donate in front of your child—even if you are simply writing a check. Talk about what you do for others.
- Children and families can give in many ways: of their time (volunteering), treasure (donating canned goods to the hungry) or talent (a walk-a-thon).
- Whether the giver or receiver, let children know that each of us has other strengths and needs. Remind children that we all came to this earth as a receiver of care and a giver of unconditional love!
In 2006, generous support enabled The Family & Workplace Connection to provide a variety of programming that fulfills our mission of enhancing the quality of care and education for Delaware's children and elders and helping families effectively manage their work and personal life responsibilities. Families are at the heart of what we do!

May you and yours have a wonderful season of giving and receiving!
