EARLY CHILDHOOD EXPO/PROVIDER APPRECIATION DAY TO BE HELD MAY 5
“Appreciating You & Your Profession” to be focus of conference

The City of Wilmington, Wilmington Early Care and Education Council (WECEC) and the Delaware Department of Education will host the Early Childhood EXPO and Provider Appreciation Day on Saturday, May 5, 2007.  The EXPO will be held at the University of Delaware-Arsht located at 2600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Wilmington, Delaware from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The event, targeted for anyone working in early care and education, will include 21 professional development opportunities related to the licensing regulations, transportation rules, curricula/assessment programs, new systems underway, collaboration opportunities and business support.  Approximately twenty exhibitors representing higher education, support organizations, learning materials and supply companies will be available to discuss new products and services.  Child care providers will get 4 training clock hours for their full day attendance. 

Beginning at noon, the day will transition into a special tribute to child care providers followed by a Living Well series in celebration of Provider Appreciation Day.  WECEC, the Mayor, City Councilpersons, education leaders, and legislators will give tribute to the wonderful contributions that that early care and education professionals make to the community and to the state of Delaware. Local businesses will engage professionals in opportunities to promote healthy lifestyles, reduce stress, and offer beauty tips, etc.

The day will end with a special performance by children from the Latin American Community Center, appreciation gifts for providers, and great prize giveaways, including a  grand prize.
  
Provider Appreciation Day is a special day to recognize child care workers, teachers, educators, family support staff, bus drivers, etc. Started in 1996 in New Jersey, this day is recognized in North America, Europe, and Asia.  Typically celebrated the Friday before Mothers Day, Wilmington has opted to celebrate on May 5th.
