Grand Time Off Program
The Grand Time Off program provides respite for grandparents and relatives who are raising other family members’ children in their own homes, providing the majority of the care for these children. For purposes of the Grand Time Off program, adult caregivers must be 50 years or older, and the children must be 17 years or younger. The program is managed by The Family & Workplace Connection (FWC) through a contract with the Delaware Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities (DSAAPD).
Grand Time Off is available to caregivers statewide who use the program to help them find and pay for short-term, occasional child care needs. Each eligible caregiver is able to use a subsidy of up to $400 per child to pay for respite child care.
Caregivers can use the respite care when:
- They have appointments and other commitments and need care for their eligible child
- They need a short break from their routine caregiver duties
- They need care on a short-term basis
Once relative caregivers are determined to be eligible for the program, Grand Time Off specialists at FWC assist caregivers in developing a respite care plan, including assistance in finding care options and processing payments to care providers. Caregivers can choose:
- Family child care homes
- Child care centers
- A friend or family member
