School Holiday and Snowy Day Worksite Programs
Since 1995, The Family & Workplace Connection has operated high-quality school-age care programs at various corporate locations in Delaware on selected days school is closed. In addition to snow days and holidays such as Presidents Day and vacation weeks such as Spring Break, companies may also choose to have us run a "Beginning of Summer" program to cover the few days after school ends, and "End of Summer" program to cover the time period before school begins, since many camps do not operate on these days.
On-site care is attractive to and convenient for parents. Children enjoy going to and from work with Mom or Dad, while participating in activities designed especially for them.
Features of the Program
-
Creative arts and crafts activities; games; outdoor play; field trips to water parks, children's museums, and other attractions; and entertaining guest presenters.
-
Staff-to-child ratio of 1:10. FWC hires staff with experience and training in the care and education of school-age children. Attempts are made to hire as many certified teachers as possible. College students majoring in education are also often utilized. Staff undergo a criminal background check, reference checks, TB screening, training, and orientation. Programs are operated for groups of 16 or more children.
-
Strict sign-in and sign-out procedures for drop-off, pick-up, and lunch times. Children are always with the group unless signed out by a parent or other authorized person. Children are escorted to the bathroom. A strict "counting" system is followed to account for children.
FWC assesses space and other requirements, develops a program plan suited for your company, and purchases items for the program, such as toys, games, supplies, and storage equipment.

How the Snowy Day Program Works
Parents reserve space in advance for the Snowy Day program, and on the morning of the snow day, call to let us know that they want to bring their child. When parents make a reservation, they are mailed a confirmation letter and a parent handbook.
FWC advertises for Snowy Day staff in October, targeting school teachers. Holiday program staff are also utilized. Staff are oriented and trained, and by November, are ready to be called upon. As soon as weather forecasts predict snow, the program coordinator contacts staff to assess imminent availability for the day in question. She reviews the plans and procedures. As soon as the trigger school districts announce closings, the coordinator telephones staff to tell them to report to the Snowy Day program.
Meantime, at the FWC office, staff are geared up to handle last-minute questions and calls from parents reporting that they are bringing their children. Consumable items (snacks, juice, craft materials, etc.) have already been purchased in advance. A snow-day schedule of activities has already been prepared, with toys, equipment, and other supplies already in storage at the company’s worksite. Staff arrive by 7:30 a.m. to be ready for an 8:30 a.m. start of the Snowy Day program.
